Rapper Jay-Z: I Support Arsenal

Multi-million record selling rapper Jay-Z, 40, known for smash-hit songs such as Can't Knock The Hustle, Hard Knock Life, and Change Clothes, has confirmed his allegiance to Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, contrary to claims suggesting he was a Manchester City fan.

The lyricist, who was spotted at the City of Manchester Stadium last year, told Sport.co.uk that he would love to have "lunch with Cesc and the other guys".

He said: "I'm glad Arsenal now know it's them I support.

"It would be good to chat with Cesc and some of the other guys over lunch.

"The next time I'm playing in England I would like the Arsenal players to come and watch my gig and then come backstage afterwards.

"I know how hard professional sportsmen work so I want to offer an incentive for the guys", the multi Grammy-award winner concluded.

Jay-Z adds his name to a diverse list of Gunners fans that allegedly includes Paul Kaye (aka Dennis Pennis), the Queen, Spike Lee, Kevin Costner, Osama Bin Laden, Barbara Windsor, and Blak Twang.

Nigeria's ailing President Yar'Adua breaks silence

Nigeria's president, not seen in public since going into hospital in Saudi Arabia for heart treatment in November, has told the BBC he is recovering.
In his first interview since then, by telephone, Umaru Yar'Adua said he hoped to make "tremendous progress" and return home to resume his duties.
His long absence and speculation over his health have led to calls for him to hand over power to his vice-president.
The opposition plans a rally to demand details of the president's health.
Rumours the president was critically ill and unable to return to the presidency have been swirling around Nigeria.
His adviser Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi told the BBC the president's enemies were behind the rumours.
Doctors said in December that President Yar'Adua was suffering from acute pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining of the heart. He is also known to have kidney problems.
Constitutional worries
Speaking by telephone to the BBC in an interview organised by the president's office, Mr Yar'Adua said he was making a good recovery.
"At the moment I am undergoing treatment, and I'm getting better from the treatment. I hope that very soon there will be tremendous progress, which will allow me to get back home," he said.
"I wish, at this stage, to thank all Nigerians for their prayers for my good health, and for their prayers for the nation."
He also wished the Nigerian national football team success in the Africa Cup of Nations currently under way in Angola.
The BBC's correspondent in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, said the president's voice had sounded weak.
President Yar'Adua's silence until now and the fact he did not appoint Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan to serve in his absence have led to fears of a constitutional crisis.
There is a perceived danger of a power vacuum in a country that only saw the end of military rule just over 10 years ago, the BBC's Will Ross reports from the capital, Abuja.
There have also been complaints that important government business has been left hanging in the president's absence.
'Enough Is Enough'
Many Nigerians will be relieved to hear the president's voice, says our correspondent, but calls to hand over power to the vice-president will continue.
There are three different court cases under way calling for power to be transferred to Mr Jonathan.
Under the banner Enough Is Enough, an organisation called the Save Nigeria Group has called people on to the streets of Abuja.
The opposition plan is to march to the national assembly where senators are expected to be discussing the president's health.
Prominent opposition politicians and lawyers, Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka and the Biafran secessionist leader, Chief Emeka Ojukwu, will be among the demonstrators.
It is not clear if the demonstration will be well attended, our correspondent says.
Nigerians may be worried about their absent president but whether they will take time off to demonstrate is another matter, he adds.

9ice and toni get engaged

The break up

PRESS RELEASE FROM 9ICE’s PR Company

LAGOS| NIGERIA

January 8, 2010

It’s a brand new year of opportunities and possibilities; and we’ll specially like to thank you for your love and support for 9ice and his label this past year.

That 9ice has grown from an upcoming singer-performer, to become one of Africa’s most promising exports, is not just as a result of his talent, hard work and can-do spirit; but because the media in Nigeria (print, broadcast and online) have been extremely kind to him and his music.

Unfortunately, we may have some sad news for you.

9ice and his beautiful wife Toni Payne; with whom he tied the knots almost two years ago; are separating.

The couple have agreed to separate for a while, even though they continue to remain good friends and business partners.

Their baby Zion will reside with Toni for now.

This is a very very tough decision for the couple, and it’s a tough, even trying time for the young partnership we all admire so much. And they’re even the more constrained to make this announcement; knowing it will shatter many of their fans, and admirers inside and outside the country.

But they have both agreed to be responsible about the development, and make public what is necessary, to avoid unnecessary speculations, and rumours.

And it is their wish that we all respect their privacy at this period.

Neither 9ice nor Toni will be granting any press interviews on this matter.

Sikiratu Sindodo charged with manslaughter

Sikiratu SindodoNollywood actress, Temitayo Odueke, popularly known as Sikiratu Sindodo has been arrested and detained at the police State Traffic Division (STD), Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja over alleged manslaughter.

The actress was arrested last Friday at Muri Busari Close, Oloti Village, off Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja, where she was accused of crushing a 16-month old boy, Damilola, to death with her red honda CR-V with registration number FE 589 LND.

There were, however, conflicting accounts of how the tragedy occurred. While some witnesses claimed that Sikiratu Sindodo crushed the toddler from the rear, others claimed that the toddler ran into the vehicle while the actress was driving out of the close.

It was gathered that Sindodo had driven into the neighbourhood that fateful afternoon to visit her friend, Tope Doherty, who had just returned from London where she is based. They were said to have spent sometime together before they decided to go out.

Trouble started when Sindodo was halted and told to come down and see the little boy she had killed. The crowd in the neighbourhood raised an alarm that the actress had crushed the toddler while negotiating her way out of the close.

Another eyewitness, who claimed to have captured the incident, said that the toddler ran into the embattled actress’ SUV from her mother’s beer palour and in the process, was hit by the vehicle. She said the actress was oblivious of the situation as they had to run after the vehicle and call her attention to the tragedy.

What is your Opinion? Should Sikiratu Sidondo be charged to Court or Pardoned?
